Ledbury Town were not relishing this trip to Shawbury in the West Midland Premier Division on Saturday as previous matches had not yielded even one point.
SHAWBURY UNITED 1, LEDBURY TOWN 1
Ledbury lined-up with striker Rich Kear in the team, who is on loan from Cinderford Town.
The match was marred by a strong wind that blew throughout the game but play still moved from end to end with both teams having chances.
Shawbury were first to show and only good goalkeeping by Adam Penny kept them at bay.
Robbie Colwell and Kear combined well up front for Ledbury and chances started to be created.
Colwell then put Ledbury in front when he headed home a Stuart Smith free kick in the 15th minute. Kear was then just wide as he turned and fired in another Smith cross.
Shawbury equalised in the 30th minute when Ledbury failed to clear a high swinging corner and Tom Ward pounced to level.
An injured Chris Powell failed to come out for the second half and he was replaced by Marc Brooks. His work rate and strong tackling gave Ledbury a much more solid look.
A good run by Kear saw his shot just miss the post before Towan Ravenscroft was brought down in the area.
Colwell stepped up to take the resultant spot-kick but his firm strike was parried away by keeper Mark Green as he dived to his left.
Ledbury pushed forward looking for a winner but could not break through.
Assistant manager Kevin Barry said in the end he was happy with a point and named Towan Ravenscroft as man of the match.
Ledbury Town welcome Bromyard Town tomorrow (Saturday) for a league game (2.45) and then on Wednesday (February 18) entertain Wellington at New Street (7.45).
Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury Town Reserves are due to visit Bilston Town in the league (2.45).
On Wednesday night Town bowed out of the West Midlands Premier Division League Cup when visiting league leaders Malvern Town went through to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory.
Goals from Gary Smith and Des Cox put Malvern in the driving seat but Ledbury hit back when Robbie Colwell netted in the 67th minute. Malvern were forced to hold on as Ledbury threw everything forward in the closing minutes but to no avail.
