A retired physics schoolteacher living in Ledbury is still setting testing questions.
David Shotbolt is making a name for himself as a setter of highly involved questions of the BBC Radio Four programme The Round Britain Quiz.
Mr Shotbolt, of The Homend, submitted two brain-teasers used in the last series.
A third brain-teaser from the pen of Mr Shotbolt was used on the January 26 show.
He said: "I do a lot of crosswords and I have that sort of brain. I have sent off ten questions so far, and they have used three."
Members of the panel have praised Mr Shotbolt for the ingenuity of his questions, each of which contains up to five clues, relating to an overall linking answer.
