PLANS are being made to fly former Hereford United player-manager John Charles home from Italy in the wake of his latest health setback.
The 'Gentle Giant', who has been in a clinic in Milan following two major operations to remove blood clots, firstly from his heart and then from a leg, has had to have part of his right foot amputated due to gangrene after circulatory problems set in.
Charles, who is 72, has been plagued with ill health in recent years and has suffered from blood cancer and a tumour of the bladder as well as the onset of Alzheimer's disease.
