CONCERNS over children's safety were voiced by Staunton-on-Wye residents at a public meeting called to discuss plans for the village's new school.
Nearly 50 people attended the meeting, called by the parish council to address an outline planning application for the new school on land at Bliss Hall Farm.
While the council said it supported the need for a replacement school, it shared residents' concerns over the effect increased traffic would have on the village.
In particular, fears were expressed for the safety of children and parents who would be walking to the new school.
Further objections to the plan included the close proximity of the new school building to bungalows, the impact of noise on elderly residents and the possible loss of natural light to homes from tree planting and fencing.
