Shawbury United 1
Ledbury Town 1
LEDBURY Town claimed their first-ever West Midlands League Premier Division point in visits to high-flying Shawbury and, with a modicum of luck, could well have come away with a win.
Although a strong wind made control difficult, there was plenty of action at both ends as both teams endeavoured to attack at every opportunity.
Youngster Adam Penny denied Shawbury with a couple of fine saves, and at the other end on-loan striker Richard Kear linked well with Robbie Colwell to pose problems for the home defence.
Ledbury took the lead when Colwell rose above the home defenders to head home a Stuart Smith free-kick, and minutes later Kear almost put them two clear when he turned sharply but fired just wide.
Just before the break Ledbury failed to clear a high, swinging corner and Tom Ward pounced to level.
The visitors took over to dominate after the interval and should have taken the lead from the penalty spot when Towan Ravenscroft was brought down in the box. The usually prolific Colwell hit a firm shot to the left but goalkeeper Mark Jones guessed right to make a fine, diving save.
