VILLAGE HALL ENHANCEMENT - The popular Cedar Hall in Dilwyn has been awarded two grants, which will broaden the scope of catering possibilities and improve the hall for its many users. The first, a Herefordshire Partnership Grant was awarded earlier this year by Hereford and Worcester Rural Development Area Small Projects Fund. The £715 grant will go towards the £1,500 needed to upgrade the kitchen equipment. A new professional cooking range and oven and a heated cabinet have been installed. The second was a lottery grant under The Awards for All scheme where £5,000 has been awarded for the purchase of stage decking which will provide extra staging or tiered seating for film shows. Delivery is due at the beginning of March.
ST MARY'S CHURCH - On Sunday at 10 am, come and light a candle at this Christingle Service - The Shining Light into Darkness. The collection will be for The Children's Society, (a voluntary society of the Church of England), which will help children in distress from bullying and enable them to turn to specialist volunteers for help. Every Tuesday at 10.30am Holy Communion.
ROYAL BRITISH LEGION - Guest speaker Brian Davies, addressed the Dilwyn, Monkland and Eardisland branch in the Crown Inn. Born in Cardiff, Brian joined the RAF in 1941 with his sights set upon winning his wings This ambition was achieved after a rigorous training period in Britain and the USA. Listening to his experiences as a young Flight Lt/. Pilot who flew both the 'wonderful' Halifax and the 'famous' Dakota was most interesting. Chairman Richard Hall thanked Brian for sharing his exploits and happy times at Shobdon Airport training as a glider tug pilot. and the more serious posting to Bomber Command and night flying over Germany, to his time in West Africa flying Dakotas after 1945 for what was to become West African Airways. This RBL branch is currently 89 member's strong, anyone interested can contact secretary Edward Jones if they would like to become member number 90. 01544 318209.
