CHILDREN'S SOCIETY - This year Mrs Olive Morgan will be holding the Children's Society coffee morning at her home, Bridge Farm, Almeley, on Saturday from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Holders of Children's Society boxes are asked to bring them to this event. There will be a bring and buy stall and a raffle. The collection at the Christingle Service held on Sunday, February 1, at St Mary's Church was in aid of this society.
CHOIR - As a result of a very successful carol singing evening in December, £142 was collected for the Save the Children Fund. Following the evening of successful music making the singers were entertained to supper at Orchard, the home of Mrs Edna Hughes. Having enjoyed their meal the choir watched a video of a concert they had performed last year. In addition to her hospitality, Mrs Hughes has provided a metal cupboard, in which the choir can safely keep their music.
WOMEN'S INSTITUTE - The next meeting of the Almeley WI, will be in the village hall on Thursday, February 19, at 2.30pm. On the same evening, Calendar Girls will be the film to be shown in the village hall at 7.30pm.
WHIST DRIVE - The series of three whist drives organised by the Almeley Whist Club, in aid of the Air Ambulance, will take place in the village hall on Tuesday, February 17 and March 2, at 7.45pm.
CINEMA - Calendar Girls (cert 12a) will be the next film to be shown at Almeley Village Hall on on Thursday, February 19. Film starts at 7.30pm.
FUN RUN - A pancake fun run will be held on Sunday, February 22, organised by Almeley Primary School. The adult course is about three miles long with a shorter run for children. There will be four races: men, women (each to include High School pupils) and primary aged boys and girls. The cost for entry is £3 for the first two events and £1 for children.
