Hereford'S Gaol Street car park will be closed for resurfacing from Thursday, February 26, to Tuesday, March 2.
The car park, one of the most popular for city shoppers, has not been resurfaced for several years and Herefordshire Council believes it is no longer cost effective or practical to continue to maintain it by "patching" potholes.
Stephen Oates, Herefordshire Council's head of engineering and transportation, said: "We apologise for the inconvenience the temporary closure of the car park may cause.
"Because of the scale of the works required we are having to close the whole of the car park for several days.
"We have tried to avoid the busiest times of year - Christmas and New Year - and will have the car park open again as soon the work is completed.
"I'd like to thank motorists in advance for their co-operation."
Alternative car parks, such as the multi-storey in Widemarsh Street or Merton Meadow in Blackfriars Street, will be open as usual.
