HEREFORDSHIRE Green Party stalwart David Gillett, who died in a road accident last month, will be replaced on its shortlist for June's European elections by another veteran campaigner.
Members of the West Midlands Green Party voted Felicity Norman, of Luston, near Leominster, on to their seven-strong list of candidates. She becomes one of two Herefordshire candidates on the list.
"David's death has been a huge loss to us all," says Felicity. "Now we are carrying on the work he started."
Felicity has been a member of the Green Party for over 20 years, contesting local, Parliamentary and European elections in the West Midlands. She is a former agriculture spokesman for the party and served her community as a Green district councillor until local government reorganisation in Herefordshire in 1998.
Ms Norman now lives on a smallholding with her husband and two daughters.
She has had a varied career. She initially attended agricultural college, going on to work on farms before retraining as a teacher.
"David put an enormous amount of effort into this campaign," she said. "He believed we could get a European MP elected in the West Midlands this time - our campaign is dedicated to his memory."
