FORMER Notts County and Wolves star Phil Robinson has set his sights on another crack at managing Hereford United's first team next season after steering the club to Conference safety.

The Edgar Street board will meet next Monday to discuss among other things Robinson's future as player/coach.

Robinson has endured a roller- coaster time in charge including memorable victories over leading sides Boston and Dagenham, FA Cup success against Wrexham as well as a brief flirtation with relegation.

"We haven't sat down to discuss anything yet because it is only recently that we've known which league we were going to be in," said Robinson.

"But if things were right I would like to stay on in my current role because I've thoroughly enjoyed it."

Hereford's Director of Football, Graham Turner, admits it has been a disappointing season for the Edgar Street club but said that United remained committed to continuing on a full time basis with Ian Wright, Matt Clarke, Matt Baker, Tony James, Paul Parry and Scott Voice all on full-time contracts for next season.

"Overall I think it has been a disappointment to find ourselves at the wrong end of the table and it is a cause of concern," said Turner.

"But we are safe in the Conference and next season things have to improve and next week's board meeting gives us an opportunity to look at the situation."

One player who definitely looks set to leave is Gavin Williams who has yet to sign a two-year deal.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he was not here next year but we've tried to get him to sign a new contract and it remains in the balance," said Turner.

Hereford can round off their season with cup success when they entertain Third Division Swansea City at Edgar Street tonight (7.30) in the HFA Senior Invitation Cup Final.

Turner is keen to keep the cup in Hereford and expects a competitive match from The Swans.

"It has not been played for several years and usually it is held during pre-season but we want to win it and keep the cup in Herefordshire," he said.

Robinson will be without defenders Richard Holmes (hamstring) and Dean Barrick (unavailable) but midfielder Ian Rodgerson is fit again.
