MARK Jones is emerging from his brother's shadow to play a key role in Hereford United's revival.
The Bulls' goalkeeper is the older brother of Paul Jones, now starring in goal for Southampton and Wales after first making his name with Kidderminster Harriers.
While Paul is now in his ninth season in the League, having arrived at Southampton by way of Wolves and Stockport, Mark, in stark contrast, has spent his entire career in the Nationwide Conference, having joined Hereford from Telford United last season.
But the 35-year-old says he is not jealous of the way Paul, who is three years younger, has progressed up the soccer ladder.
"Not at all," said Mark. "I am very proud of what he has achieved, especially as he is now Wales' number one.
"He still keeps in touch. He always knows where I am playing and the results, while I always watch out for how he is doing."
Jones made only four league appearances last season for Hereford as he played second fiddle to regular choice Andy Quy.
But an early-season injury to Quy has given Jones his first extended chance at Edgar Street - and he has grabbed it with both hands.
"Now I am playing in the first team regularly it makes life a little bit easier, and I am enjoying it," he added.
Jones is confident United can hoist themselves into the Conference title race -- and possibly join his brother in League soccer.
"We have played a couple of games more than other teams, but if we can turn on more performances like we did against Rushden and Diamonds, we have every chance of getting ourselves into the shake-up.
"As long as we don't have too many performances like against Hayes last week, we should be OK."
