THE soft going and gale force winds were ideal for the home side, who were quite experienced, but simply lacked the pace of a youthful Malvern side.

Ledbury III 17 pts, MALVERN III 12pts

The bulky Ledbury pack soon realised that they had the weight advantage over Malvern and certainly from the set pieces dominated throughout the game.

Ledbury got onto the score sheet with a tremendous solo effort from Sam Scholfield, who broke from the rear of the scrum from the Malvern 22, evading the attention of two Malvern tacklers.

Against the run of play, John Wilesmith gifted Malvern a try when he passed to a retreating Malvern player and the elusive backs ran virtually the length of the pitch to score.

In the second half Ledbury had the wind behind them, but made hard work of sewing up the game. Replacement flanker Jamie Williams however put Ledbury back into the lead, after he ripped the ball out of the Malvern fly half's arms in the in-goal area.

The visitors responded again with a well worked try, their backs again embarrassing the Ledbury defence after Ledbury back Andy Eagle had lofted a clearance kick right into the grateful arms of Malvern's fastest player.

The unfortunate Malvern fly half's nightmare was not over yet, when he spilled to ball in the in-goal area, a grateful Major Watkins was awarded the try, which Bernie Scholfield managed to convert.

Ledbury effectively closed the game down from here on, pinning the Malvern side in their own half, and ruling supreme in the set pieces.

Another good result from a side that is improving with every game.
