Colwall recorded their best result of the season so far with a 7-0 win against Blockley at Ledbury Leisure Centre on Saturday.
COLWALL 7, BLOCKLEY 0
Colwall started the first half in excellent form and good build-up play from the midfield trio of Jen Shail, Jackie Styles and Abi Brandon-White, supported by Laura Entwhistle, set up a series of early opportunities.
Coral Handley was the first to take advantage of the positive play with a skilful reverse stick shot into the corner of the goal. She followed this soon afterwards with a dribble through several defenders to tap the ball in on the line.
A flowing move down the right hand side involving Brandon-White and Styles then put Sam Shail in a good position to make the score 3-0.
Handley completed her hat-trick with a firm shot past the keeper. Lucy Halligan took advantage of a short corner to drive the ball into the goal to make the score 5-0 at half time.
Blockley tried to counter attack after half time, but good defending from newcomer Mary Wathen, Lucy Halligan and Colleen Rogers kept them at bay. Colwall finally killed off the resistance with goals from Handley, and Halligan to make the final score 7-0.
- After the match, Colwall presented Steph Fitzgibbon with a framed and signed photo of the team as a farewell gift from the club on her return to New Zealand next weekend. She had played for the club for two years and had scored nine goals this season.
The club are now looking for a replacement to play on the left wing. Anyone interested should call Coral Handley on 07773 491203.
