Ledbury second XV took on Camp Hill seconds in a friendly on Saturday.

LEDBURY II 13pts, CAMP HILL II 6pts

On their last meeting with Ledbury, Camp Hill delivered a sound beating, however Ledbury having only lost one game in their last seven, were up for revenge.

The teams took to the pitch in atrocious conditions with the wind blowing hard, rain and very heavy ground conditions, Ledbury elected to play up hill and into the wind.

From the first scrum the home side knew this was going to be a challenge as Camp Hill were very strong up front and the ground was not helping with any player's footings. Camp Hill opened the scoring with a well-taken drop goal from the fly half.

The visitors then proceeded to encamp themselves in the Ledbury 22 for the next 15 minutes, only with great effort and some superb tackling did Ledbury manage to repel the onslaught, with David Balshaw leading the way with some ferocious hits. He was later named man of the match by stand in skipper Craig Price. Late on in the first half Ledbury broke out with some touchline-to-touchline play that ended up with James White going over in the corner. Conversion missed.

Things heated up in the second half with both sides fighting hard and not wanting to give an inch. Ledbury, now playing with the wind, played to the corners with a fine display of kicking from fly-half Stefan Jones and Mark Gould which enabled the Ledbury pack to set up another try, scored by prop Bill Sparey. The game was finally sealed when Mark Gould slotted a 22 metre drop goal.

With the Henry Weston Cider Challenge waiting, Ledbury put a six-man drinking side against Camp Hill and following some dubious spillage by Camp Hill were for the second time that day winners.

Ledbury are at home tomorrow (Saturday) against Bromsgrove third XV, kick off 2.15pm.
