THE undoubted highlight of last weekends weather-affected matches was the clash between the leading Division Two side Dynamo Ledbury and last year's Division One champions Bishops Frome in the quarter-final of the Herefordshire FA Sunday Cup.

With both teams having excellent defensive records Dynamo had only conceded nine goals in 12 league games and Bishops Frome only seven in nine games, a low scoring game was expected. The opposite was the case however as the visitors, Bishops Frome, went through to the last four courtesy of a 6-4 victory, but only after extra time in a game which was a credit to both teams and to The Soccer Site Malvern League.

On a sticky pitch the first 20 minutes were fairly even but then the visitors took the lead when Jason Westmacott found himself one-on-one with the home keeper and his shot hit the bar and bounced down on the line where Craig Turbill was the first to follow up and hit the ball home.

Dynamo hit back in the 30th minute when Andy Davies beat a defender before running on and rounding the visiting keeper to slot home the equaliser. This was the score at half time but in the 50th minute Bishops Frome regained the lead with a free kick from 20 yards which Darren Lynch skilfully slotted over the wall and into the top corner of the net.

In the 60th minute it was 2-2 when Matt Grey chipped the ball over the keeper from the edge of the area. Wayne Hoskins then regained the lead for the visitors when he ran through from midfield and beat two defenders before shooting home from the edge of the area.

Dynamo were showing a never-say-die attitude and they equalised again in the 85th minute to take the game to extra time when the ball fell to Mitch Preedy on the edge of the Bishops Frome area and his right foot shot found the corner of the net.

The first half of extra time saw two blows befall Dynamo the first another goal from Craig Turbill following a goalmouth scramble, but more crucially the loss of injured keeper Mark Davies who had pulled off a series of superb saves all through the game.

It became 5-3 early in the second period of extra time when substitute Carl Long came on and proceeded to round the stand in keeper only to see his shot hit the post but once again it was a visiting forward who reacted quickest and Adam Bayliss followed up to net the rebound.

But once again Dynamo came back and a goal from close range by Matt Grey pulled them back to 4-5. They began to think about penalty-takers as they went close to equalising only for Stewart Graham to wrap things up for Bishops Frome when he ran onto a through pass from Mike Beale before side-footing the ball past the advancing keeper and into the net.

The final whistle went with both sides very tired from their efforts in the sticky ground with rival midfielders Dynamo's Matt Grey and Bishops Frome's Darren Lynch having had outstanding games. Bishops Frome's reward for this hard fought victory will be a visit to Orcop or Credenhill in the semi-final.

Division Two continued its almost weekly rotation of leaders as with previous leaders Dynamo Ledbury on cup duty, third-placed Bell Inn 98 took the chance to leap frog to the top when they entertained fourth placed Madresfield and took the points with a convincing 7-0 win.

Play started fairly evenly with both sides very competitive before Bell took the lead after 20 minutes when a cross from Paul Allen was palmed into his own net by the visiting keeper. It became 2-0 in the 25th minute when Leon Roberts scored the best goal of the match. Following a sweeping move down the pitch he calmly picked his spot and lobbed the keeper. Robbie Colwell then proceeded to net a hat-trick with goals either side of the interval to make it 5-0 followed by a tap-in goal from substitute Dave Beech in the 80th minute and an effort from Chris Grubb in the next minute to make it 7-0.

The only other game played was in Division One where Fromes Hill entertained Kempsey United A with the visitors winning 5-1 courtesy of goals from Warren Leggett and two each for Chris Freeman and Steve Bullock with the home side's solitary reply coming from Shaun Taylor. Despite the score line this was another improved display from Fromes Hill, who were often only denied by visiting keeper Nick Garrett, who had an excellent match.
