HEREFORDSHIRE Under-17 girls found goal-scoring a problem in the West of England Tournament in Bristol when they netted just three times in eight matches.
One of those, however, from Kat Dixon, was enough to secure a 1-0 victory against Devon, one of the pre-tournament favourites.
In addition there were single goal defeats by Cornwall, Somerset and Channel Islands and goalless draws against Dorset and Wiltshire, as well as a 2-0 defeat by Avon and a 3-2 loss against Gloucestershire when the goals came from Dixon and Beth Healey.
On the strength of their performances in the tournament, Becky Edwards, Laura Entwistle and Sarah Nightingale were invited for West of England trials.
Some fine saves by Herefordshire goalkeeper Simone Quinn and strong defensive play by Rosie Brundrett were not enough to save Herefordshire Under-14 girls from a 3-0 defeat in a friendly match with Gloucestershire.
The county under-15 side also went down to Gloucestershire, this time by a 4-0 margin, although Pippa Collins in defence and Pippa Blandford and Daisy Jackson in central midfield showed up well for Herefordshire.
