Ledbury 20 pts Camp Hill 14

FACING a strong wind, Ledbury held their higher-placed Midlands 3 West (South) opponents to a single first-half score before using the elements effectively to continue their recent good form and clock up a sixth league victory.

After a sluggish start Camp Hill started to pin Ledbury in their own 22-metre area for a sustained period, but the home pack responded with a terrific display of tough tackling.

However, Camp Hill pressure finally paid off minutes before the interval when their backs moved the ball to create a corner try, which was converted.

From the restart the advantage switched to Ledbury and they wasted little time in setting up an attacking position.

Scrum-half Rob Collins was always sniping away and showed some sharp anticipation to slip over for an early try, the conversion from Pete Elkington levelling the scores at the break.

Ledbury made a vigorous start to the second half and took the lead following good work by their pack, who drove Denver Rollings through to claim an unconverted try.

The visitors came storming back and took advantage of some slack Ledbury play to regain the lead with a converted try.

Skipper Matt Williams then got behind his team and they lifted their game to drive the visitors back forcing them to concede a penalty, which Elkington converted to restore home advantage by a single point.

The game was in the balance until leading scorer Tom Green powered his way over for a final unconverted to seal Ledbury's victory.

Before the game there was a minute's silence in memory of skipper Matt Williams' father, who died during the preceding week.

l Ledbury 3rd gained a 17-12 home victory over Malvern 3rd.

Sam Schofield, Jamie Williams and Major Watkins scored tries and Bernie Schofield kicked a conversion.
