A YOUNG mother was injured near a Hereford nursery school when struck by a car whose driver failed to stop.
Now a head teacher has called on the rights of pedestrians to be recognised and has urged any witnesses to the accident to contact the police.
In a letter to parents of St Paul's Primary School, Tupsley, head teacher Reginald Thomas referred to last Friday's accident.
He wrote: "Well, we might have hoped that with all of the traffic calming measures around school that pedestrians would have been safer.
"Unfortunately, one of our parents was hit this morning by a light blue car, on Church Road, near to the Church Nursery entrance. She is bruised and upset but otherwise ok.
"What is concerning though is that the driver did not stop; perhaps she was unaware that she had hit the lady or she was in a hurry - but in any event if you witnessed this it would be appropriate to inform the local police."
Mr Thomas added: "Unless everyone respects the pedestrian's rights to walk safely across our suburban streets then the future for our community will be much diminished."
