A SENSORY garden for children at a Hereford special school has been vandalised.
Appalled staff at Barrs Court School arrived at work on Monday to find the garden, which has fragrant herbs and plants the children can touch and smell, had been destroyed.
One of the wooden troughs containing the fragrant, touchable plants had been broken in half, tiles off the roof had been thrown around and wind chimes were damaged and had been thrown on the floor.
School secretary Judy Wisden said: "When a member of staff was working late on Friday he caught some youngsters on the roof of the school and chased them off.
"When he left the damage was not done so we are assuming that they had something to do with it. There were two or three of them and they were not very old - probably around 10 or 11."
The school estimates the vandals caused around £75 damage but Mrs Wisden added: "It's not the money, it's the principle of the thing especially as we believe the damage was caused by youngsters and the garden is for children with special needs."
