PENSIONERS say they are delighted with the launch of a new Leominster Day Centre after tears last year over the closure of some Age Concern rural day centres.
Twenty-three old folk, the majority from the former Wellington club which closed in November, together with newly made friends from Yarpole and Bodenham, enjoyed bingo at their first session at The Forbury, Church Street.
Jo Mills, aged 83, of Canon Pyon, a former Wellington club member said everyone was delighted with the new Leominster centre set up by Age Concern.
Members now wanted to put the upsets of the past behind them. News of their old club's closure came at a bad time, said Mrs Mills
"We were all down in the mouth over Christmas but now our unhappiness has turned to happiness," she said.
"We're thrilled to bits with the Forbury and we are going to start fundraising with bring and buy sales to pay for outings."
A bus and Community Wheels volunteer drivers using their own cars took club members to their new centre last week - and more volunteer drivers are wanted.
The WRVS provided hot meals, though it is hoped a local caterer will be able to take over.
Members hope the club, which meets fortnightly, will soon be able to get together every week.
