A 50-YEAR-OLD grandfather will celebrate his birthday by climbing Mount Everest.
The 29,028 feet challenge will be like walking on air for Colin Smith from Hereford. He will scale the world's highest mountain via an air tread stepper from the comfort of a gym at Bulmers, treading one step for every foot of the mountain.
The forklift driver, who has already climbed the three highest peaks in Britain for real, will rise to the challenge in aid of Acorns Children's Hospice three counties appeal next May. He will also mark the 50th anniversary of Everest's conquest.
Supporters can guess how long it will take Colin, who is also vice president of Hereford Lions Club, to reach the summit.
