Ledbury made several team and positional changes for this important West Midlands Premier Division game, but it backfired as Malvern dominated for long periods as Ledbury's faint title hopes disappeared.
LEDBURY TOWN 0, MALVERN TOWN 2
Malvern started strongly and oozed confidence as Ledbury struggled to put anything together. It came as no surprise when Dean Roberts found space down the flank, cut inside before curling a great left foot shot in off the far post to put Malvern in front. Malvern were unlucky not to go two up when the linesman came to Ledbury's rescue, disallowing a goal for an infringement prior to the header.
Gardiner came closest to getting an equaliser for Ledbury, first blazing high and wide when well placed then seeing his free kick headed off the line.
The second half was similar to the first with Malvern calling the shots. Brookes then came to Ledbury's rescue, clearing from the goal line after keeper Adam Penny had dropped the ball.
Ledbury had a great chance to turn the game around when Rob Colwell sprinted clear but with only the keeper to beat he failed to register. Then a mistake let Malvern in for their second goal, from leading scorer Scott Morris, and this virtually killed the game off as Malvern ran out comfortable winners.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury Town are away in the league at Smethwick ST (2.45pm).
