The air Ambulance lifted a teenager from the play- ing fields at John Masefield High School in Ledbury on Wednesday afternoon.
The 15-year-old, who has not been named, was tackled and fell awkwardly during a game of rugby. He complained of neck and back pains.
A spokesman for the County Air Ambulance said: "He was tackled and went down hard."
The air ambulance crew, who answered the 999 call at 2.45pm, put the youngster on a spinal board as a precaution. He was then flown to Hereford County Hospital, where he was given a spinal X-ray.
The result showed no visible damage and the teenager was discharged later the same day.
