A HEREFORDSHIRE vicar has followed in the footsteps of pilgrims and raised £7,300 for two county charities.

The vicar of Bredenbury group of parishes, the Rev Chris Fletcher, and his wife, Maggie, walked 440 miles in 42 days on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

The money has been divided equally between the Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust and the Friends of Bromyard Hospital for equipment for the physiotherapy department.

The pair walked into Santiago de Compostela on Mr Fletcher's 60th birthday and were met by a group of friends and parishioners.

"This was an act of thanksgiving for my ordination...and the medical skills that put Maggie back on her feet following a car crash nearly 15 years ago," Mr Fletcher said.

Mr Fletcher also thanked Robert Turner, who engineered the sponsorship.
