ROB Weale's attempt to land a second WBT World Indoor Bowls Singles title was foiled by the defending champion and number one seed Alex Marshall in a thrilling semi-final at Potters Leisure Resort, Norfolk.
Marshall then went on to claim a third World crown by defeating Australia's Mark McMahon.
Herefordshire-based Wales international Weale had not dropp-ed a set until he met Scotland's Marshall, the number one, in an enthralling clash.
Marshall won the first set 10-5, but Weale took the match to a three-end play-off by winning the second set 7-4.
Marshall then gained the first end of the tie-break with a perfect last-ball draw, and Weale failed to take the sudden-death play-off to a third end when he fired his last drive inches wide.
