LLANGROVE people have said a final farewell on Friday to a woman who dedicated most of her 71 years to village life.
Mauveen Knight, Christ Church's organist and PCC secretary of over 40 years, died peacefully at Ross Community Hospital on January 8.
Her world revolved around Llangrove church. She began worshipping there as a teenager and, like her mother, remained an active member until her final days.
Mrs Knight - who was known as Mo - spent her early life in Llangrove and attended the village school before going to Ross Grammar School.
Although in later years she lived in Llangarron and assisted her late husband, Frank, in running trophy-winning football teams, her activities still centred round Llangrove and the church.
The couple loved horticulture and together they exhibited their produce at local gardening society flower shows.
After her husband's death, Mrs Knight continued to cultivate blooms and vegetables and she was a long-standing member of the Llangrove Gardening Society.
Her other great love was baking. She was the cook at Llangrove School and provided excellent meals for the children, as well as showing keen interest in their welfare.
Mrs Knight was also actively involved in the Thrift Club, Village Hall Committee and the Mother's Union.
For the past eight years she worked at Ganarew Residential Home and enjoyed helping the residents, often running errands for them and looking after their needs.
An obituary in the church magazine, Border News described her as a 'salt of the earth' character who would be sadly missed in many walks of life.
Mrs Knight leaves her son, David, daughter-in-law Nicky and grandson Thomas.
