Ledbury Town 0
Malvern Town 2
HAVING beaten their local rivals and West Midlands League Premier Division leaders Malvern away from home Ledbury were looking to complete a league double.
Although fielding a team showing five changes from that which thrashed Ross Town in the HFA Challenge Cup semi-final, Ledbury started well and could have been two up in the first five minutes.
Robbie Colwell raced clear in the opening minute but blasted over the top, and minutes later side-footed wide after Stuart Smith crossed from the right after a good run down the flank.
Malvern hit back to take the lead in the 10th minute when a cross-cum-shot from Dean Roberts swept over goalkeeper Adam Penny to find the far corner of the net.
The introduction of substitute Duncan Preedy after the interval lifted Ledbury, and he immediately made an impact with a fine run to set up Colwell, whose shot was cleared off the line.
Defences got on top as the game became bogged down in midfield, but the visitors made sure of victory when Scott Morris picked up a loose ball after Ledbury failed to clear and hit the target with a fierce drive.
