Greyhound 27 pts Worcester Wanderers 23
GREYHOUND staged a storming finish to snatch victory over higher-graded opponents and reach the third round of the North Midlands Shield.
Wanderers were leading 23-22 in the closing stages before Mike Helm went over for an unconverted try which clinched the game for the Hereford-based home side.
Greyhound led 11-3 at half-time with a penalty and drop-goal from Phil Davies and a Sam Ellis try.
Wanderers replied with a try in the second half and, after a Davies penalty, added two more, one of which was converted, to take a 20-14 lead.
Lee Simpson's try for Greyhound cut this to 20-19 and then the home team took the lead with an Adam Preece penalty.
Wanderers replied in like fashion to edge ahead and set up the dramatic finish.
l Hereford's quest for the North Midlands Under-17 League title suffered a setback with a 13-3 away defeat against a well-organised Bredon team.
Hereford trailed 5-0 at the interval and their only points came from a penalty by fly-half Richard Rees.
l Hereford rang the changes during their first-team friendly match 13-3 defeat at Stratford-upon-Avon.
Stratford led 12-5 at half-time and scored four tries, three conversions and a penalty. Wayne Davies scored Hereford's try.
l Hereford Under-13 were at their best to beat Bromsgove 24-12.
