A regeneration grant of £270 from the govern-ment means Newent youngsters will soon be able to enjoy sports activities at the Leisure Centre that they have organised themselves.
Four regulars at the Chill Out Zone Youth Cafe have just completed a 12-week course, paid for out of the grant, to qualify as Comm-unity Sports Leaders for their own friends.
The newly-qualified leaders are Vicki Cook, aged 17, Annie Anderton, 18, Lee Beard, 18, and Mercedes Williams, 16.
Their qualifications mean that they can organise their own sports courses in the local area.
Youth cafe manager Penny Freeman said these would most likely take place at the Leisure Centre, paid for with the Government windfall called a Fund for Youth grant.
The first sessions could take place as soon as the end of this month or the beginning of February
