Colwall WHC resumed their Severn Division Two campaign with a 4-1 win against Dursley at Stratford Park, Stroud on Saturday.
DURSLEY 1, COLWALL WHC 4
Dursley started strongly and forced Colwall goalkeeper Carole Ward to make a diving save within the first 20 seconds of the match.
Colwall settled down as the half progressed and began to counter attack Dursley.
Coral Handley had a shot on goal which was well saved by the Dursley keeper and Sam Shail was on hand to convert the rebound.
Colwall's second came from another shot from Coral Handley, who was given just the space she needed by the Dursley defence to strike the ball home powerfully.
Colwall scored their third goal following some clever interplay between Handley and Lucy Halligan at a short corner, with Handley finishing the move with a shot into the corner of the goal.
Dursley staged a recovery after halftime, and brought the score back to 3-1. Resolute defence from Colwall, and in particular player of the match Laura Entwhistle, kept them at bay.
Dursley were unlucky not to bring the score back to 3-2 when Ward in the Colwall goal just managed to deflect a firm shot round the post for a corner.
Having weathered the storm, Colwall finally broke Dursley's resistance with their fourth goal, a short corner from Lucy Halligan.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Colwall play their next league match against Wootton Bassett at Ledbury Leisure Centre, starting at 2pm.
