Ledbury teenager Emily Williams has returned home from Nashville, Tennessee, as the second best line dancer for her age group in the world.
The 14-year-old and her mum, Jenny, flew back last week with the runner-up trophy from the World Championships in their luggage.
Throughout the competition the John Masefield High School pupil was the favourite to win the advanced under-16s class, but was pipped at the post by a dancer from Holland.
Jenny, of Queensway, said: "She was pleased to do so well and pleased she had been the odds-on favourite."
But triumph turned to near disaster on the flight home, when the Williams's luggage, including the trophy, went missing in transit. The luggage has since turned up, but Mrs Williams is now wondering whether Emily will ever be able to compete in the World Championships again because of the cost.
She said: "Over two years it's cost us £14,000. But if someone said they would give us the sponsorship money, we would go."
Ledbury Town Council provided £400 sponsorship last year. Emily can also practice at the Burgage Hall for free, for the long hours of training that are essential.
