A PRESTIGIOUS exhibition, which has been touring the country for six months, will arrive for its sojourn in Hereford on Saturday.

Creating a Splash - the first 25 years of the St Ives Society of Artists - includes five works from Hereford Museum's own collections.

St Ives in Cornwall is renowned as an important centre for artists seeking inspiration, and this exhibition - organised by the Penlee House Gallery and Museum in Penzance - has been curated by art historian and author David Tovey.

It explores the high profile and success of the St Ives Society of Artists during the '30s and '40s, when it attracted many leading artists of the time and created touring exhibitions - one of which came to Hereford in 1936.

The exhibition, which runs until March 13, is accompanied by a generously illustrated catalogue and dictionary containing a detailed history of the society, in-depth catalogue of the exhibition and biographical notes, compiled by David Tovey.

An evening lecture to accompany this exhibition will be given by David Tovey on Wednesday, February 4 at 7pm. The museum and art gallery will be open from 6.30pm to view the exhibition prior to the lecture, which will be held in the Woolhope Room at Hereford Museum. To book contact 01432 264366.
