Hereford gained revenge over Leominster with a 2-1 success over their county rivals at Bridge Street Sports Centre in the West Clubs Women's League Severn Division 1 on Saturday.

The North Herefordshire side had won the first match between the teams by the same score back in October.

Leominster piled on the early pressure and might have taken the lead when they were awarded a penalty flick, only to see Hereford's goalkeeper Sam Jones produce a fine save.

Jones, however, was left helpless by Laura Stubbs's effort which gave the home side an interval lead.

Hereford equalised early in the second period through Di Feely and after this it was Leominster's Jo Rusling who was by far the busier of the two goalkeepers.

The visitors' pressure finally paid off in the closing stages when Lisbeth Cooke made a fine run down the right to set up Jess Lambert whose shot was helped into the goal by a defender's stick.

The result left Leominster in third place in the table, four points behind second-placed Hereford who, in turn, trail unbeaten leaders Cheltenham 2nd by five points.

At the other end of the table, two superb strikes from Amy Young were not enough to earn anything for Ross who went down 3-2 at home to fellow-strugglers Stroud.

The visitors led at the interval thanks to a deflected goal and extended their lead early in the second period.

But Young reduced arrears following a fine pass from Kate Cameron and then levelled the scores with another excellent shot only for Stroud to snatch victory just before the end.

Hereford 2nd continue to lead the way in Severn Division 2 after a comfortable 2-0 win at bottom club Wootton Bassett 2nd.

The city club dominated the first period but were unable to capitalise on their many scoring chances until Helen Lewis found the net just before the end of the half.

Hereford goalkeeper Mel Bryans had to make a couple of good saves after the interval as the home side fought back.

The visitors, however, finally sealed their win when Lisa Price scored a second goal after a well-worked move by Cath Goodwin down the left.

Colwall, meanwhile, are ready to pounce just two points behind in second place should Hereford slip up.

The villagers travelled to fourth-placed Dursley and came away with an impressive 4-1 success.

Coral Handley scored twice for Colwall whose other goals came from Lucy Halligan and Sam Shail.
