RBL APPEAL - The secretary of the Royal British Legion branch of Dilwyn, Eardisland and Monkland, Edward Jones, has received a request for help from Douglas Reed regarding his grandfather ex-Colour Sergeant Leonard James Pember. Douglas would like to hear from anyone who has relevant information, recollections, anecdotes or photos, particularly from those who served with him, whether in the Herefordshire Regiment (March 1939-August 1942), the Glider Pilot Regiment (August 1942-March 1946), or King's Shropshire Light Infantry (March-June 1946). Douglas writes: ''Regarding his service with the Herefordshire Regiment, I have only managed to find a few members of the 2nd Btln who served with my grandfather and those only until approximately mid-1940. I would like to find more people who served with him in the 2nd Btln, especially during the period mid 1940 to late 1942. When my grandfather went for selection for the Glider Pilot Regiment, in August 1942, I have been told that he did so with another member of the Herefordshire Regt, apparently by the name of Nelder? I would be interested to find out any information about this person and what happened to him. I have a small collection of military memorabilia related to my grandfather's army service. At present, this consists of items from the airborne forces, connected to his service with the Glider Pilot Regiment. I would like to obtain items related to the Herefordshire Regt; for example, cap badge, collar badge and shoulder titles, and would be most grateful if any former members would be willing to part with such items or give any assistance in piecing together a clearer picture of my grandfather's service career.''
