WOODLAND SECRETS - The Archaeological Projects Officer for Herefordshire Archaeology, Tim Hoverd, will be the speaker at an open meeting of Colwall Village Society at Colwall Village Hall at 7.30 on Monday. He will be speaking about some of the remarkable results obtained through a ground-based survey of woodland -- part of a project initiated in 1998 by English Heritage. This was centred on the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to produce a series of new maps of archaeological features. Archaeological sites within woodland are not, of course, susceptible to mapping from the air. Everyone is welcome to the evening whether or not they are members of the Village Society. There will be an update on activities, and refreshments will be served. More details can be obtained from Derek Lewis, chairman of Colwall Village Society, on 01684 540382.
CONCERTS - Two concerts are being held in Upper Colwall on Saturday, July 31. One is an evening of jazz at the village hall with Marily Middleton and Steve Mellor and the other is a concert in aid of St Michael's Hospice at the Downs School with Volante Strings and Carl Attwood. Both concerts begin at 7.30pm. Tickets are available for both from Estate Agent John Goodwin or directly (for the Downs concert) from Volante Strings on 01886 812282.
