NEIGHBOURS of what could be one of the county's biggest quarries are digging in for a fight.
Planners, aware of the depth of feeling against the proposed quarry at Moreton-on-Lugg, voted at a meeting in Hereford yesterday (Wednesday) to see the site for themselves.
Tarmac Ltd has applied to extract just over two million tonnes of gravel from about 27 hectares of former army land at Moreton. The extraction would be undertaken in phases spanning 10 years. Objectors argued against the operation on environmental grounds.
None of the statutory authorities consulted, such as the Highways Agency and English Nature, are against the quarry scheme.
