Stourbridge 1 Westfields 2

WESTFIELDS put an end to their run of five consecutive Midland Alliance defeats with an excellent win at fancied Stourbridge.

But things hardly looked bright for the city side in the first minute, when Alec Winstone, returning after a 35-day suspension, upended Scott Gennard and the referee awarded a penalty.

Jon Pugh, however, came to Westfields' rescue with a brilliant save from Jon Ford's spot kick.

Stourbridge maintained their pressure in the early stages but it was Westfields who went in front in the 42nd minute when Mark Hibbard fed the ball through to Scott Jackson who raced past his marker to fire the visitors into the lead.

Westfields then made an ideal start to the second period when Roy Jordan broke up a Stourbridge attack and raced down the left to provide a pinpoint pass for Paul Burton to hammer in the second from 18 yards.

The visitors showed no sign of sitting on their lead and Jordan went close to adding a third after a superb run in which he beat three defenders.

Although Gennard pulled a goal back for the Glassboys with four minutes to play, Westfields, with Jon Hill starring at the back, held on for their win.

Oadby Town 2

WESTFIELDS are still without a win at Moor House after visitors Oadby, who beat the city club 3-0 on the opening day of the season, completed a double last Wednesday evening.

The home side could hardly have made a worse start when they left James Miller unmarked at the far post to tap in the opener in the first minute.

Roy Jordan fired a free-kick straight at the Oadby goalkeeper but with torrential rain falling, neither side was able to make a further breakthrough before the interval.

Westfields, however, only had to wait three minutes into the second half to draw level. Paul Burton was brought down as he chased a through ball and Mark Hibbard slotted home the penalty.

Despite an improvement in their play, Westfields were unable to force a second goal and it was Oadby who regained the lead when Curtis Warner hammered in an unstoppable shot at the far post.

Chris Jefferson headed a Hibbard cross over the bar from Westfields' best chance as the home side strove for an equaliser but Oadby proved sufficiently strong in defence to hold on to their lead.
