WE are going to be subject to a lane change in Edgar street, unless the Hereford public object to it. What is this going to achieve? Forcing lorries and buses into their own lane under the pretence this will prevent gridlock, while proposing that cyclists use the same lane, is utter and complete rubbish. Those same lorries and buses will still end up changing lanes when they get to the lights, to go to their respective destinations. What cyclist in their right mind wants to ride alongside 30 tonne trucks?
They can play around with lane changes as long as they like, the only way to alleviate traffic is to widen the existing road or better still a relief road. If the traffic volume is the same for the same road, how is this going to prevent gridlock?
It is said this would work with the ideas for restructuring the market site. Don't count your chickens... if ASDA/relief road/ flood relief sagas spring to mind I wouldn't hold your breath. I suggest the council and Department of Transport finish one 'project' at a time instead of flooding the city with white elephants.
Hereford has been subject to incompetence for long enough, it's about time the council tax paying public had more say in the disposal of their money.
All we seem to get is councillors' pet projects such as the infamous traffic reversal of a few years ago.
When are we going to see councillors legally made to account for their actions? Every week we see our MP's photograph in the paper, but what does he actually do other than keep the photographers in film?
