I WRITE with amazement about the proposed cycle lane in Edgar Street.
Hereford planners and councillors seem to be obsessed with lanes that have no point and no purpose with no logical beginning or end.
This proposal would appear, from the map, to be in effect two separate lanes. There would, presumably, have to be a break in it to allow traffic from the south to access Blackfriars Street? Also for traffic to get into Edgar Street (heading both north and south) from Blackfriars Street.
Lorries and buses in the near-side lane would obscure lighter traffic in the outer lane, which could lead to accidents.
Would it be wise to have large, heavy traffic in the same lane as cyclists? What is its purpose?
Or is it an early April fool?
