Welsh Water is to upgrade the mains network at Ocle Pychard, Dormington, Ashperton, Stretton Grandison and Yarkhill.
The £1.5 million enhancement programme in the Westhide zone is expected to be completed by October.
The company hopes to ensure top-quality drinking water and also improve the reliability of the water supply in the area.
Welsh Water (Dwr Cymru) investment manager Andrew Swift said: "We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused while work is in progress and hope that our customers will bear with us while we carry out this essential work."
The first phase of the work at Ocle Pychard will involve road closures and temporary traffic lights.
A total of 24km of water mains will be refurbished in an area that will also include Mordiford and Shucknall.
The work will be carried out by Laing Utilities, alongside United Utilities, ChandlerKBS and other partners.
Welsh Water plans to invest a total of £1.2 billion in its water and sewerage network in the period up to 2005.
