Pewsey Vale 1 Pegasus Juniors 2
PEGASUS moved out of the bottom two in the Cherry Red Records Hellenic League Premier Division for the first time since late September after a win which sees them leapfrog ahead of their Wiltshire rivals.
On a pitch with an unpredictable bounce and an uneven surface, Pegasus made the early running and took a deserved lead after 11 minutes.
Adie Harris flicked a through ball into space between the home goalkeeper and defenders. Home keeper Lee Wilson misjudged the bounce but the ball seemed to heading out of play until Lawrence Helme, who had shown good anticipation, followed up to score from a narrow angle.
Pegasus continued to press with Helme, Rob Laurie and Gavin Stone all going close before Darren Braithwaite thumped a header against the crossbar from a Helme free-kick.
But, just after the interval, Pegasus finally doubled their advantage when Harris received a pass from the influential Neal Hotchkiss and slotted the ball into the net.
Although Barry Flipp-ance headed home a corner to reduce arrears with 20 minutes to play, the Pegasus defence held up well under heavy pressure to come home with three deserved points from their best all-round team performance of the season to date.
Matt Gray, Steve Aubrey, Braithwaite and Mike Symonds turned in outstanding displays in the Pegasus rearguard.
