WHEN Peter Burgoyne, a member of over 50 years standing, played himself in as captain of Kington Golf Club for 2004, he completing a family treble, his mother, Edith, and wife, Jane, having both served as captain of the ladies' section.
Born and bread in Lyonshall, Burgoyne was educated at Lucton School in the early 1950s and, after national service with the KSLI in Germany, he gave great service to local sport.
He played rugby for the Silurians at Kington and when the club folded in 1970 he joined Luctonians, his 25-year stint as a player, treasurer and chairman being rewarded with life membership.
Cricket was always his summer sport and he served Kington CC for 30 years as both a player and later club chairman, one of his proudest achievements being the construction of the present pavilion.
On receiving his green golf captain's jacket from retiring captain Derek Brookes, one his first tasks was to present the winning ladies' prize in the nine-hole drive-in competition to his wife Jane.
The joint drive-in ceremony saw Joan Morgan take over as the captain of the ladies' section from Chris Hughes.

n David Park, Hereford-shire's leading PGA professional, has travelled out to Dubai for some warm weather practice in preparation for the first European Tour event of 2004, in South Africa, starting on January 15.
From Dubai he will fly direct to compete in the South African Airways Open which will be played over the Somerset West course at Erinvale, and the following week he will move on to Johannesburg to play in the Dunhill Champion-ship at Houghton Golf Club.
