NANCY Zhang of Manor Park, Malvern won the 14U Girls' Event at Malvern & County Indoor Tennis Centre, fighting off a tough challenge in the final against Elizabeth Verow from Warwickshire.
Nancy lost the first set 2/6 took the second 6/3 and then was 4/5 down in the third set before recovering to win the match 7/5 in the third.
Nancy also had a close contest with County Junior, Megan Resse, in the semi finals, defeating her 7/5 6/4 and in the other semi-final, Eliza-beth Verow defeated another Herefordshire and Worcestershire player, Siobhan Gordon 6/3, 6/2.
County player Lewis Barnes stormed to victory in the Boys' Event, only losing four games throughout the whole tournament.
Lewis is currently a full time LTA junior scholar at the LTA Academy at Loughborough and with his height and power it is hoped that he will achieve great tennis success in the future.
The final was a hard-hitting match and whilst Rob Lowe from Pershore was able to keep in the rallies with Lewis, the point tally did not quite go his way. Lewis Barnes won 6/1, 6/1.
As well as players from Herefordshire and Worcestershire, this three-day indoor tournament attracted entries from players from Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire.
