Ledbury Town Council is calling for the introduction of limited waiting for parked cars in Bye Street, following complaints from traders.

Businesses say that unloading and general business is being affected by members of the public who park, free of charge, for long periods of time.

Ledbury town clerk June McQuaid said: "At present there are no parking restrictions outside Foley House and the shops opposite, which allows cars to be parked there all day. The problem has been exacerbated by the introduction of double yellow lines in Market Street.

"The shopkeepers feel that their businesses are being affected and would like to see the introduction of one hour limited waiting, to bring Bye Street into line with proposals for the rest of the town."

The town council is also to ask Herefordshire Council when the limited waiting in the High Street and the Homend will be boosted from the current 45 minutes to one hour, as has been promised.

News of the limited waiting proposals have been welcomed by Bye Street traders.

Steve Onions, of Ledbury Sports and Leisure, said: "From a shopkeeper's point of view, it would be welcome. I have had people who work in Ledbury park outside my shop all day."

Teresa Potter, of the Utopia hair salon, said: "I have no objections to the proposals, if its stops people who work up town parking outside my business."

The town council is recommending a number of measures to Herefordshire Council, including limited waiting on the north side of Bye Street, outside Foley House, and limited waiting for the south side, between the shop premises numbered 42 to 44.

Under the proposals, limited waiting would also be introduced in the parking area in front of Ledbury Ambulance Station.
