HEREFORDSHIRE-based motor-cycle racer Chaz Davies is on the shortlist for another top award.
Sixteen-year-old Chaz, from Kinsham, is one of three candidates to succeed last year's winner, England striker Wayne Rooney, as the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2003.
Mum Sam, dad Pete and sister Jodi will accompany Chaz, who was 14th overall in the 250cc GP World Championship, as they mix with the country's top sports stars at a glittering evening on Sunday when the major BBC Sports Personality of the Year award will also be announced.
To win the title, however, Chaz will have to fight off strong competition from 14-year-old athlete Joey Duck, ranked number one in her age group in Europe at 200m, and 16-year-old Kate Haywood, the youngest swimmer ever to represent England in the Commonwealth Games.
But it has already been a good week for Chaz, who began this year by receiving the Hereford Times Ted Woodriffe Award. Last Sunday he was presented with the BBC Local Radio Break-through award for Herefordshire at the Belfry.
