Pegasus Juniors 2
Ross Town 2 (aet)
(Ross win 5-3 on penalties)
AFTER fighting back from a two-goal deficit in normal time, Ross showed deadly accuracy with their penalty shooting to book a place in the third round of the Hellenic League Challenge Cup.
Richard Newman saved the first Pegasus penalty to leave the home team always in arrears as each of the visitors spot-kickers found the back of the net with their efforts. Their reward is an attractive home tie against Premier Division leaders, Didcot Town.
Ross started the more positively of the two sides, but the higher-graded Hereford based side took control as the half wore on. Newman in the visitors' goal was called on to make a couple of saves to keep the score-line blank at the break.
After a spell of Ross pressure at the start of the second half, it was the home team who seized the initiative. First Rob Laurie drove home during a series of scrambles, and then Matt Gray doubled the tally after being presented with the ball in front of an open goal following deft work by Neal Hotchkiss.
Ross must have feared it was not to be there day as between the two goals, Jamie Warwick missed from the penalty spot. Matt Taylor brought Dewi Stuart down, but was relieved to see Warwick drag his shot wide. Warwick redeemed himself by showing good opportunism to reduce the arrears.
Three minutes later it was 2-2 as Dylan Blenkinsop netted during a goalmouth scramble to set up extra-time and then the penalty shoot-out.
