TRADERS and shoppers in Hereford have something to cheer about with the announcement by Herefordshire Council that it will waive fees for park and ride and offer some free parking in the lead-up to Christmas.
The 'present' from the council is to help businesses recover from the Legionnaires' outbreak, which has affected city centre trade.
The park and ride service will be free for the remaining Saturdays in December and the Merton Meadow Car Park, in Hereford, is to be free after 2pm on Monday to Friday, from next week up to Christmas Eve.
Councillor Mike Wilson, cabinet member (highways and transportation), said: "Hereford city traders have been hard hit in recent weeks and we are doing what we can to help them get back on their feet.
"Everyone wants to see plenty of Christmas shoppers on the streets of our beautiful city."
The park and ride sites are:
l Denco car park to the north of the city on the A49 (Holmer Road)
l Grafton site, on the A49 (Ross Road) to the south of the city.
Buses run every 15 minutes, starting at 9am, with the last return bus leaving the city centre at 5.50pm. The remaining dates for park and ride 2003 are December 13, 20 and 27.
