Ledbury'S recent good run continued and they remained unbeaten during November but high-flying Lye pushed the home side all the way in an entertaining end-to-end game.
LEDBURY TOWN 4, LYE TOWN 3
Playing up the slope in the first half Ledbury started the brighter and Duncan Preedy and Nick Stockley had efforts go just wide but two poor mistakes in defence stunned the home side.
First poor marking allowed Tony Cox to pick his spot then Andy Burgess turned two defenders inside out before firing past Penny.
It was only a brilliant save from Penny from Burgess that kept the score at 2-0 but Ledbury were thrown a life line just before half time. A jinking run by Stu Smith ended with him being fouled just outside the box, and for the second week running up stepped skipper Stu Hall to fire home an unstoppable free kick.
In the second half Ledbury upped the pressure and the introduction of top scorer Rob Colwell for Nick Stockley started to turn the game as Preedy, Smith and Colwell all started to take on the overworked Lye defence.
Preedy found Colwell but narrowly fired wide but that was just a warning as Brooks fed Colwell who this time fired home a right foot shot to put Ledbury level.
Colwell nearly put Ledbury in front as he headed Preedy's cross just past the post.
Once again a mistake from the Ledbury defence, this time Clueit failed to clear, and Luke Philpotts headed home.
Ledbury wouldn't die. Gardiner was now having the freedom to attack as Ledbury searched for the equaliser.
Then with eight minutes remaining a short corner between Preedy and Gardiner saw Stu Hall head home from six yards to set up a grandstand finish and what a finish it was as Lye were hanging on by their finger nails.
Robbie Colwell provided the perfect cross and as the Lye defence hesitated Duncan Preedy pounced to fire home to make it four straight wins and keep Ledbury right on the heels of the leaders.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury are at home to Wolverhampton United, kick off 2.45pm.
