Aberystwyth 5 Presteigne 0
HOT on the heels of their excellent 4-3 success against Penrhyncoch in the Wales FA Trophy the previous week, Prest-eigne were confident of keeping the winning run going when they visited the league leaders in the Spar Mid Wales League on Saturday.
Their hopes, however, were swiftly dashed when the border team turned in comfortably their worst display of the season to come away with a five-goal drubbing.
Mark Mortlock and Chris Jones had the best Presteigne opportunities in the first half when wayward Aberystwyth finishing kept the game scoreless at the interval.
After the break, the home side showed their title-chasing pedigree and raced into a two-goal lead in the first 10 minutes of the half, going on to add two more either side of the sending-off of Jones in the 67th minute for a late tackle.
Aberystwyth scored a fifth after 75 minutes and on balance of play might have scored even more on a dismal day for Presteigne.
Presteigne Reserves' Emrys Morgan Trophy game at St Dogmaels was called off because of a waterlogged pitch and has now been rearranged for this Saturday.
The first team will, meanwhile, hope to continue their fine run in the Wales FA Trophy when they visit North Wales side Pen-y-cae, from near Wrexham, for a fifth round tie in the New Year.
