HEREFORDSHIRE will have two representatives in the final stages of the Shropshire and Herefordshire Hargrove Trophy after both Kington and Herefordshire GC secured their places in the quarter-finals of the winter foursomes team event.
In the Hargrove Plate, for first round losers, Herefordshire's sole representatives will be Herefordshire GC B.
Kington travelled to play much-fancied Bridgnorth A with a slender 2-1 lead from the first leg and booked their place in the last eight with a 1-1 draw for a winning 3-2 aggregate.
Stewart Franks and Matt Davies opened with a valuable half, and then Ed Deasey and Matt Weaver made sure of victory with a precious one-up win in the second match.
Herefordshire followed up their 2-1 away success against Kington B with a 3-0 home win in the return leg.
Robin Eckley and Jason Griffiths beat Lee Wilson and Brian Davies two up, John McQuillan and Jonathan Devereux beat Graham Priday and Brian Morgan by the same margin, and Neil Greening and Ben Synnock completed a 5-1 winning aggregate with a five-up win over Roger Richards and Shaun Galliers.
Burghill Valley A went out to Oswestry A on a 4-2 aggregate when they were well beaten 3-0 in the away leg.
Matt Harrison and Kris Jones, and Andy Lambert and Ed Morley had given them hope with wins in the first leg at Burghill, but this was not enough to worry the strong Oswestry team who used their home advantage effectively to snuff any hopes of an upset.
Burghill Valley B were overwhelmed by Wrekin B who went through with comfortable 3-0 wins in both legs.
Belmont A were always going to struggle against Hawkstone A after going down 2-1 at home in the first leg, their sole win coming from Will Lloyd and Tristan Dodd. They went down 3-0 to go out 5-1 on aggregate.
Herefordshire B made a splendid recovery to book their quarter-final place in the Hargrove Plate.
Having lost the first away leg 2- against Market Drayton A, with Keith Williams and Neil Bell gaining what proved to be a valuable half, they turned the tie around with a 3-0 home win for a 3-2 aggregate victory.
Williams and Bell, Andrew Wheatstone and Richard Welling, and Steve Griffiths and Steve Eckley were the winning pairs.
